8 Top Attractions In Hong Kong

Hong Kong is vibrant, compact, and loaded with things to see and do. The food is phenomenal and my main objective when I visit. Be sure to check out my other post for recommendations on must-eat foods. Below is a list of 8 top attractions not to be missed on your trip to Hong Kong!

1. Victoria Peak

Victoria Peak offers sweeping views over Hong Kong. Take the Peak Tram for a scenic ride to the top.

2. Pottinger Street

The iconic Pottinger Street, also known as “Stone Slabs Street”, is a very steep stone lane and one of the oldest streets in Hong Kong. These days it’s lined with colorful hawker stalls selling a variety of goods.

3. Tsim Sha Tsui

Tsim Sha Tsui is a busy neighborhood best known for its many attractions, large array of shopping options, and great deal of restaurants. It’s also the more expensive part of town with a number of luxury hotels and designer shops.

There’s plenty to see and do in this lively district such as the following:

Clock Tower

The Clock Tower is what remains of the historical Kowloon-Canton Railway terminal. It’s now a treasured landmark in Hong Kong.

Kowloon Park

Kowloon Park is a green oasis amid the hecticness of Hong Kong. Among other things you’ll find locals doing tai chi, a pond of pretty flamingos, and statues of popular comic characters.

The Avenue of Stars is basically Hong Kong’s version of Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. Similarly there are star plaques embedded on the pavement honoring celebrities of the Hong Kong film industry. This area also provides great views across the Victoria Harbour waterfront.

4. Lantau Island

Lantau Island is Hong Kong’s largest island. It contains a number of attractions including hiking trails, Disneyland, and the Big Buddha.

Wander Tip: Take the Ngong Ping 360 gondola from the main land to the island for stunning views.

5. Markets

Markets are a big part of Hong Kong culture. Two of the more popular markets are Ladies’ Market (best for clothes) and Temple Street Night Market (a range of goods).

Wander Tip: Be sure to check out the food stalls at the markets for some cheap authentic bites!

6. Central Harbourfront

The Harbourfront in Central provides spectacular views of Hong Kong’s skyline. There are many buskers along the promenade entertaining the crowds. There is also a gigantic Ferris wheel on site.

7. Sai Kung

Sai Kung is a quaint fishing village in Hong Kong known for its beautiful nature and delicious seafood. Restaurants allow you to select fresh catch to be cooked for your meals.

8. Symphony Of Lights Show

The Symphony of Lights is Hong Kong’s daily light and music show. Watch as the skyline illuminates with bright colorful lights.

Wander Tip: The best vantage point is from the waterfront by the Avenue of Stars.


My #1 Pick

My favorite spot was Lantau Island. It would have been even better had it not been so foggy the time I went. If I get the chance to visit again I would like to hike one of the trails next time.


Hong Kong contains a ton of sights but you definitely won’t want to miss these 8 top attractions if you’re visiting! It’s worth noting that Macau is just a short ferry ride away and an easy day trip from Hong Kong.
