Artsy Vibes and Boba in Kaohsiung

Cihou Fort in Kaohsiung Taiwan

Kaohsiung was part of my Asia tour in January 2018. It was my second time in Taiwan and I spent 5 days 4 nights there. Below is a recollection of my experience in Kaohsiung. For a list of top attractions not to be missed in Kaohsiung be sure to check out my other post.

Culture

Lively area in Kaohsiung Taiwan

Since I had been to Taipei before I was already familiar with Taiwanese culture at that point. Kaohsiung had a charming artsy vibe to it. For a city it felt rather slow-paced and there didn’t appear to be much traffic congestion. As expected there was a ton of bustling night markets. There were definitely more instances this time around in which we ran into snags due to language barrier.

Memories

Boba Milk Tea
  • Fun times riding the scooter around town- scary moment when a pack of stray dogs chased after us at night on our way up to Shoushan Love Lookout
  • Pigging out- the beef noodle soup was absolutely divine
  • Pampering ourselves with a relaxing massage at a quirky cat themed parlor
  • Guzzling down boba tea like there’s no tomorrow- it was delightfully refreshing and DIRT CHEAP
  • Getting a huge mosquito bite right by my eye which got super swollen- not exaggerating when I say it looked like I had gotten punched in the eye
  • Stuffing my face at the night markets- sooo many tasty street food options

Love River Bridge in Kaohsiung Taiwan

I had a great experience during my Kaohsiung trip! My sister’s friends were the ultimate local tour guides. Kaohsiung did feel quite small though so I prefer the overall liveliness of Taipei but Kaohsiung is definitely worth visiting.
